Willig, Williams & Davidson Attorney Kristine Phillips Honored with First Judicial District of Pennsylvania's 2012 Pro Bono Roll of Honor Award

November 9, 2012

Kristine A. Phillips, a partner with Pennsylvania labor and employment law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson, was honored by the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania with its 2012 Pro Bono Roll of Honor on Oct. 24, 2012.

Each year through the Pro Bono Roll of Honor awards program, the First Judicial District recognizes the importance of performing pro bono work in order to ensure justice for the citizens of Philadelphia, along with the tremendous effort that many attorneys expend in providing pro bono services to litigants in the Court of Common Pleas or Municipal Court. The Roll of Honor was created under the auspices of the First Judicial District’s Pro Bono Committee, which includes members of the judiciary, bar and pro bono service providers.

To be eligible for this award, an attorney must practice in Philadelphia County and have provided the pro bono services to a client or client group for a case pending before the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania; be employed by an organization that has, as its primary purpose, the provision of free legal services to the underprivileged; have (1) provided services to a client or client group who does not have the resources to compensate another attorney for the services, or (2) organized, implemented or managed an initiative to expand pro bono legal services in the courts; and does not receive a fee or have any expectation of receiving a few for the services.

Phillips concentrates her practice in residential and commercial real estate. She counsels and represents clients in matters including sales, acquisitions and landlord-tenant disputes. Phillips also assists individuals with legal needs relating to consumer and traffic matters. A dedicated practitioner, individuals turn to Phillips to represent them in all phases of residential and commercial real estate sales and acquisitions. She also counsels and represents clients in real estate-related litigation, including zoning matters, tax issues, quiet title disputes and similar cases. Phillips advises clients regarding financial qualification for real estate purchases and debt management options, such as refinancing and lines of credit, and handles lease and lease-purchase agreements. Clients also rely on her to resolve landlord / tenant disputes and title discrepancies, and to secure negotiated settlements for liens and defective deeds.

In addition to maintaining her busy legal practice, Phillips serves as an arbitrator for the Philadelphia Arbitration Center. She is a volunteer attorney with the Philadelphia Mortgage Foreclosure Diversion Program, a pilot program which helps low-income Philadelphia residents facing foreclosure and potential homelessness by providing free legal representation and the opportunity to negotiate with lenders to save their homes. Phillips derives a great deal of satisfaction from giving back to the community by helping homeowners who fell victim to predatory lending and other misleading practices that now threaten their emotional and financial well-being.
