Five Willig, Williams & Davidson Attorneys Named 2013 Top Rated Lawyers by American Lawyer Media and Martindale-Hubbell

December 12, 2012

American Lawyer Media and Martindale-Hubbell™ have selected Pennsylvania attorneys Deborah R. Willig, Alaine S. Williams, Nancy B. G. Lassen, Deborah M. Lerner and Amy L. Rosenberger as “2013 Top Rated Lawyers.” The lawyers, all partners with Pennsylvania labor and employment law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson, will be featured in The American Lawyer magazine’s “Women Leaders in the Law,” a special section that is also slated to run in The National Law Journal and Corporate Counsel magazine in January 2013. Attorneys recognized as “Top Rated Lawyers” and featured in “Women Leaders in the Law” have achieved significant leadership status and are highly regarded by their peers for both their legal ability and high ethical standards.

Willig has led Willig, Williams & Davidson since the firm’s founding in 1979. As a labor and employment law attorney, she has been involved in representing a wide range of labor unions including public school teachers and employees; public health, social and recreation workers; firefighters; teamsters; and orchestra musicians. Her work for both public and private sector unions includes contract negotiations, presenting interest and grievance arbitrations and advising clients on internal union governance and staff matters. She also maintains an active practice in the representation of employee benefit funds, including jointly administered funds in the public and private sectors. Willig served as the first female Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Williams, a named firm partner, is an authority on public employee labor law. She focuses her practice on labor and employment law, representing public sector labor unions and protecting the rights of workers. Her efforts have included drafting and defending Pennsylvania legislation on behalf of public sector labor unions to require all nonmembers in a bargaining unit to pay fair share fees for benefits negotiated on their behalf, thereby enhancing the economic and political power of public sector unions in Pennsylvania. Among other notable achievements, Williams has also successfully represented 150 disabled state employees who faced termination from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, enjoining the furlough sought by the Commonwealth and saving the employees’ jobs.

A tireless advocate for working men and women, Lassen has focused her practice on labor law for nearly three decades. Her union-side labor clients hail from a variety of workforce sectors, including public employees (uniformed and non-uniformed), federal employees, private sector and industrial workers, transportation workers and the building trades. Lassen’s extensive experience includes representing clients in collective bargaining, state and federal trial and appellate litigation, state and federal administrative agency proceedings, grievance and interest arbitrations, internal union proceedings and occupational health and safety disputes.

The chair of Willig, Williams & Davidson’s employee benefits department, Lerner has more than 30 years of experience in tax and employee benefits law. She counsels and represents numerous public and private-sector single and multi-employer funds on a broad range of benefit and tax matters. Lerner specializes in representing trustees of single and multi-employer pension and health and welfare plans with respect to tax, ERISA and plan administration issues. She also advises individuals regarding employment, pension and benefit matters.

Rosenberger represents labor unions and individual employees before state and federal courts and in arbitrations, negotiations and administrative proceedings. She works with unions representing public service and health care employees, transit workers, public and private school employees and higher education faculty, among others. Bringing to bear more than 15 years of experience as a labor practitioner, she also counsels and trains employees and union representatives with respect to employment disputes and their legal rights. Her work on behalf of working people includes advocating for their rights, seeking fair contracts at the bargaining table and conveying the skills they require to confidently stand toe-to-toe with employer representatives.
