Willig, Williams & Davidson Union Lawyers Represent Phoenixville Teachers' Union

May 20, 2013

Philadelphia labor and employment law firm, Willig, Williams & Davidson, has been hired to represent the Phoenixville teachers’ union. After more than three years of negotiations and no new contract, the Phoenixville Area Education Association has hired the law firm to assist in its bargaining with the school district.

According to Amy Rosenberger, Esq., the lawyer representing the union, “We have been asked to serve as the Union’s chief spokesperson at the bargaining table.” She said, “The parties went into fact finding last fall, but that didn’t lead to a resolution. It’s a long time for the teachers to be without a contract.”

The union issued a press release from union co-president Catherine Renzulli stating, “In order to develop a reasonable and equitable contract in a timely fashion, [the teachers’ union] has contracted the services of Willig, Williams & Davidson.”

Willig, Williams & Davidson and its attorneys have been representing unions and their members for more than 35 years. “Negotiations involving teachers and school district support staff unions have their own set of nuances,” said Rosenberger. “Bargaining with school districts comes under its own rules and this is something we handle every day.”

Willig, Williams & Davidson represents a number of K-12 and higher education faculty unions including the American Federation of Teachers Pennsylvania and a number of its affiliates, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and several of its affiliates, the Association of State College and University Professionals, the Temple Association of University Professionals. The union-side law firm also represents other unions within school districts including paraprofessionals, school bus drivers, mechanics, secretaries, custodians and food service workers. Other clients include the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

According to the Phoenixville teachers’ union’s release, one of the many reasons they hired Willig, Williams & Davidson is because the firm “successfully bargained for the Radnor Education Association and the state’s university professors.”
