Course Description

Ripped from the headlines, social media has infiltrated the practice of law at every point of the profession. From marketing and public relations, to courtroom procedures and litigation, social media impacts the way attorneys communicate and practice law. It has become crucial for lawyers, legal administrators and marketing professionals, to understand how to effectively and ethically harness social media including the implementation of social media policies.

Social media presents complicated, challenging issues because it crosses social and business use. Issues and claims can stem from contract, tort, common law and statute. Lawyers need to be concerned about potential IP issues and monitoring their brand and reputations just as much as their clients. The law struggles to keep up as technology and social media evolve and change at lightning speed.

This one-hour program will explore what attorneys need to know about the use of social media while not running afoul of the Rules of Professional Conduct. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of social media policies, do’s and don’ts of social media as it relates to marketing and public relations, communicating with judges, “friending” clients and witnesses, discovery, and litigation.
