Philadelphia Labor Lawyer Ralph J. Teti of Willig, Williams & Davidson Receives City of Hope's Spirit of Life Award

September 3, 2010

Attorney Ralph J. Teti, Esq. of the Philadelphia union-side labor law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson was honored with City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Award at a reception presented by the Tri-state Labor & Management Council on September 20, 2010. The reception, which took place at the Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia, served as a fundraising event for City of Hope, an innovative biomedical research, treatment and educational institution.

The Spirit of Life Award is the highest honor City of Hope bestows on individuals for their philanthropic endeavors. The award recognizes a lifetime of personal and professional achievement and is presented to outstanding philanthropists who exemplify City of Hope’s mission through their actions. Past award recipients hail from a broad range of industries, including business, entertainment, science and philanthropy, and share a commitment to elevating the human condition and a profound belief in the power of individuals to effect change. Teti is the second Willig Williams & Davidson attorney to receive the award. Firm managing partner, Deborah R. Willig, Esq., was honored with the Spirit of Life Award in 1987.

“I am truly honored to be named a recipient of the Spirit of Life Award,” said Teti. “City of Hope is one of the foremost biomedical research and treatment facilities in the country. I am proud to support this outstanding organization’s efforts to improve the lives of patients battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases worldwide through scientific excellence and compassionate care.”

A partner with Willig Williams & Davidson, Teti focuses his practice on labor representation, including representation of clients in grievance and interest arbitrations. Considered by his peers as a leading authority on federal and state election law and regulation, Teti also serves as counsel for political candidates, political action committees and related organizations in matters such as campaign finance and election law enforcement. He has contributed his talents to litigation involving Pennsylvania’s takeover of the Philadelphia School District, litigation instituted to prevent the school district from placing responsibility for its operation with a private provider and litigation to prevent the closure of, or a reduction in staff at, the Free Library of Philadelphia. Teti has also successfully litigated the applicability of the Pennsylvania Heart & Lung Act to city police officers and firefighters, and handled litigation that resulted in the elimination of a Philadelphia Home Rule Charter section banning voluntary political contributions by firefighters.

Prior to joining Willig Williams & Davidson, Teti was Chief Deputy City Solicitor for the City of Philadelphia. In that capacity, he served as general counsel to the city’s police department, election commission, civil service commission and pension and retirement board.

“Best Lawyers in America” has listed Teti as one of the field’s top labor and employment lawyers since 2006. Philadelphia magazine has also included him in its list of Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® in the field of labor and employment law since 2006.

Willig, Williams & Davidson is one of the largest and most respected union-side labor law firms in the United States. The firm’s accomplished and diverse legal team focuses on representing labor unions, employee benefit funds, individual working people and their families. Its attorneys work with clients to find practical and efficient solutions to the problems that they face in a variety of legal forums, including national, regional and local contract negotiations and dispute resolution through mediation, arbitration and court litigation.
