Philadelphia Labor and Employment Lawyer Deborah Willig Presented at Philadelphia Bar Association Pathways to Leadership Program

Deborah R. Willig, Managing Partner of Philadelphia union-side labor law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson and the first woman chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, spoke at the Bar Association’s Women in the Profession Committee Pathways to Leadership program. Willig, a 2010 recipient of the Philadelphia Business Journal Woman of Distinction Award and The Legal Intelligencer Women Lawyers of Distinction Award, joined the four women who have subsequently served as chancellors of the Bar Association in discussing effective leadership skills for women, how women lawyers can promote themselves and their accomplishments, the pursuit of goals and the pursuit of leadership positions within the Bar Association.

Former Bar Association chancellors Doreen S. Davis of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Audrey C. Talley of Drinker, Biddle & Reath, Jane L. Dalton of Duane Morris and Sayde J. Ladov of Dolchin, Slotkin & Todd joined Willig as speakers.

Deborah Willig, Managing Partner of Willig, Williams & DavidsonA determined advocate for union members and other working individuals, Willig has been a pioneer and role model for women lawyers throughout her 35-year career. She began at Temple University School of Law, where she was the first female president of the Student Bar Association’s board of governors, was honored for outstanding service, selected to the moot court team and delivered her class’ commencement speech in 1975. Willig has served as Managing Partner of Willig, Williams & Davidson since she co-founded the firm more than 30 years ago. She has held countless leadership positions with the Bar Association during her career, including becoming the organization’s first woman chancellor in 1992. She continues to serve as an active member of the Bar Association.

Willig has been involved in representing a wide range of labor unions including teachers and non-professional public school employees; public health, social, and recreation workers; firefighters; teamsters; and orchestra musicians since 1976. Her work for both public and private sector unions includes contract negotiations, presenting interest and grievance arbitrations, employee benefits planning and advising clients on internal union governance and staff matters. “Best Lawyers in America” has listed Willig as one of the field’s top labor and employment lawyers since 1990. Willig has consistently been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer® by Thomson Reuters, published annually in Philadelphia magazine, since 2004. She was also listed among the Top 50 Women Lawyers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and one of the Top 100 Women Lawyers in Philadelphia in 2009.
