  • Scott M. Orloff, Philadelphia Attorney Discusses the Family Law Practice at Willig, Williams & Davidson

Scott Orloff’s practice focuses on domestic relations matters including divorce, support, custody and equitable distribution. Scott also assists clients with legal needs relating to social security, collections and general litigation. His notable achievements include helping a client secure and collect a multimillion-dollar award in a case in which the client’s husband left the country to pursue business opportunities abroad. During the pendency of the litigation in the federal district and bankruptcy courts, issues arose related to the sale of an international hedge fund, and Scott thereafter negotiated a positive settlement for his client. He has helped countless custody clients obtain favorable results, including the return of children who have been wrongfully removed from the jurisdiction. One such matter involved the return of a child taken to Hawaii by her father in violation of an existing custody order.

As people’s lives have become more complex and complicated, their domestic relations issues have become more challenging and stressful. With 30 years of family-law experience, Scott brings wisdom earned in the trenches and tremendous empathy to bear in helping clients resolve those difficult matters.

Scott serves as a volunteer lawyer with Philadelphia VIP (Volunteers for the Indigent Program), a program providing legal services for low-income residents and families facing civil legal problems that threaten their basic human needs, such as shelter, employment and health care. He also acts as a volunteer child advocate, safeguarding the interests of children whose families are in crisis. Scott joins others at the firm in believing it is incumbent upon lawyers to provide pro bono legal representation to individuals and families who would otherwise find themselves without legal assistance.

WHAT INSPIRES ME ABOUT MY WORK

“My clients, on a daily basis, are dealing with family-related issues, that often involving children. I take pains—in a humanistic way—to help the parties understand the complexity of their situation and what they can realistically expect as a resolution. I’m deeply gratified when clients let me know that I’ve helped. One such individual recently said, ‘If there’s ever any doubt in your mind, rest assured that you make a tremendous difference.’ That’s what inspires me—the ability to help!"

AWAY FROM WORK

“I’m an avid sports spectator, participant and fitness buff. I enjoy spending time with my family at the Jersey Shore, traveling and completing do-it-yourself projects around our home.”

  • When three children were removed from their home in Pennsylvania, and their subsequent whereabouts were unknown, Scott obtained an emergency order for their return and worked with local and foreign law enforcement to locate and return the children to their father in Philadelphia.
  • Assisted a family friend in obtaining custody of three minor children after the death of the children’s acting caregiver, their grandmother.
  • Negotiated a supervised custodial arrangement to facilitate a parent-child relationship between a child and a parent recovering from a drug addiction
  • Assisted a client in obtaining approval for disability benefits and obtaining a modification of his child-support obligation based upon his disability
  • Assisted a client in obtaining an order providing her with a five-year retroactive increase in the other parent’s child-support obligation based upon the paying parent’s failure to provide notice of a change in his income
