Labor and Employment Attorney Alaine Williams Quoted on New U.S. Overtime Standards

On May 24, 2016, Willig, Williams & Davidson partner Alaine S. Williams shared with The Legal Intelligencer insight into the U.S. Department of Labor’s recent final ruling which updates overtime regulations.

Effective Dec. 1, the maximum for overtime exemption among salaried workers will be doubled, setting it at $47,476. According to the Labor Department, the move is expected to make more than 4 million employees eligible for overtime pay nationwide.

Williams said that while the changes are sure to lead to more lawsuits, she’s hopeful that the widespread publicity given to the DOL’s rulemaking process has given employers ample notice of the requirements to avoid exposure.
