Michelle Devitt Discusses Leading Philadelphia Chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association with Law360

Willig, Williams & Davidson attorney Michelle “Micky” Devitt has been chosen to serve as president of the Philadelphia chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA), an organization for professionals in industrial relations and human resources. The focus of her one-year term will be to provide more opportunities for networking and engagement around employment matters, including contract negotiations and bargaining agreements.

Devitt spoke with Law360 about her new role and her plans for the year. “We want to get working on boosting our membership and getting our members back involved through our fall programming,” she said.

“The labor bar is such a small bar in Philadelphia, compared to others,” Devitt added. “This is a neutral space where we can see the same people over and over and build relationships that will ultimately help our clients. It also helps us stay current on issues in the labor world.”

Managing partner Deborah R. Willig was also quoted on Devitt’s leadership position. “Willig, Williams & Davidson has advocated for working people for decades, and our attorneys’ active involvement in LERA over the years reflects that commitment,” she said. “LERA brings together professionals from all aspects of labor relations law to build connections in the labor community and discuss current events and legal developments. We are proud that Micky has committed her time to serve as president, and we know she will continue to advance the mission of fairness and progress in the workplace.”

Devitt commented on her career-long focus on labor law. “I think what I like about the labor practice is that it is very relationship-oriented,” she said. “A collective bargaining agreement is like a marriage. The two sides need to be together, they just have to figure out how to get along.”
