Nicole Hunt, President of UNITEHERE! Local 634, Calls Labor Lawyers ‘Second Family’

A food service worker who knew little about union organizing, Nicole Hunt said Deborah Willig and the labor lawyers at Willig, Williams & Davidson taught her how to run an effective, robust local union.

“From the start, Deb and her associates were always kind, patient, and they were always willing to take time to explain it and make sure that we understood it,” said Hunt, who now serves as president of UNITEHERE! Local 634 in Philadelphia.

“I always wondered how she could have a whole law firm with the kindest, best folks that I have met,” Hunt continued. “They all have a great heart and want to do what’s right for the people of Philadelphia, for the members. I just love all of them to death. They’re just like my second family.”

UNITEHERE! Local 634 represents 2,200 public sector school cafeteria employees and noon-time aides working for the Philadelphia School District. Together with UNITEHERE! Local 274 and Local 54, the three affiliates are among the largest unions in Philadelphia, representing 7,000 hotel, gaming, and food service workers. Like many other UNITEHERE! affiliates nationwide, their diverse membership includes predominantly women and people of color.
