Partner Irwin Aronson Discusses Benefits of Entering the Building Trades on Building PA Podcast

Chris Martin and Jon O’Brien of the Building PA Podcast recently spoke with Willig, Williams & Davidson partner Irwin Aronson regarding the benefits of joining the building trades.

Aronson, who focuses his practice on labor and employment law, employee benefits matters, governmental affairs and legislative drafting and analysis, appeared on an episode entitled “Labor – Benefits of Joining the Building Trades.” In it, he discusses the many advantages, particularly for younger workers, of joining one of Pennsylvania’s 16 regional and 15 international building trade organizations, including training, skill set portability, family-sustaining wages, medical benefits, life insurance, travel opportunities, and retirement plans.

Aronson also shared his positive experience working jointly with contractors and union members on a piece of legislation, PA House Bill 1100, that would provide specialized tax benefits for building a petrochemical plant in Pennsylvania. The project would bring jobs, tax income and profits for contractors who bid and secure the work. (HB 1100 was passed by both houses of the General Assembly but vetoed by the governor. Subsequently, it was revised and adopted with stronger labor and contractor protections and signed in to law by Gov. Tom Wolf as Act 66 of 2020).

The Building PA Podcast serves the construction industry throughout Pennsylvania with brief, downloadable segments. Hosted by Chris Martin, president of Atlas Marketing, and Jon O’Brien, executive director of the Keystone Contractors Association, it covers topics such as safety, workforce development, insurance, legal issues, legislation, business development, and more.
