Stuart W. Davidson Honored with City of Justice Award from Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy

Willig, Williams & Davidson partner recognized by largest social justice advocacy group on West Coast

PHILADELPHIA (December 2019) – Pennsylvania labor, employment and workers’ compensation law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson is proud to announce that partner Stuart W. Davidson has been honored with a City of Justice award from LAANE, Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy.

Davidson serves on the advisory board of LAANE, the largest social justice advocacy group on the West Coast. He was recognized at the organization’s City of Justice Awards Dinner on Dec. 5 in Los Angeles. The premier progressive event in California, the awards dinner honors outstanding leaders who help to improve the lives of working people. It attracts more than 1,000 attendees, including elected officials, labor leaders, philanthropists, entertainment executives, business owners and activists, each year.

In addition to Davidson, the 2019 awards also honored Randi Weingarten, President, American Federation of Teachers; Susan Genco, Co-President, The Azoff Company; and Ann Cohen, Manager, EVX Team and Davidson’s wife. Davidson and Cohen were honored for their lifetime of achievement on behalf of social justice. Their award was presented by former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick who also gave the keynote address.

“All of us at Willig, Williams & Davidson congratulate Stuart and Ann on their well-deserved recognition,” said firm managing partner Deborah R. Willig. “Stuart has dedicated his career to advocating for the safety, security and dignity of the people he represents, and he continues to champion working men and women and their families every day.”

Davidson tirelessly advocates for labor unions and the workers they represent. He represents public and private multiemployer benefit funds, fighting to preserve the ability of workers to retire with dignity and to have access to affordable health care. His work includes leading contract negotiations, presenting interest and grievance arbitrations and advising on external and internal union matters. Davidson serves as chief counsel to large regional and local unions along the East and Gulf coasts and in the Chicago area.

A longtime Philadelphia union leader, Cohen led her members through two strikes and won ground-breaking contract provisions on their behalf. She spearheaded the creation of the Joint AFSCME and City of Philadelphia Internship and Apprenticeship Program that, since 1993, has worked with scores of high school students. After retiring from public service and union leadership, she became the manager of the EVX team, which designs, builds, and competes with alternative fuel vehicles at the Workshop School, a public high school in West Philadelphia.

Proceeds from the City of Justice Awards Dinner benefit LAANE, ensuring that the organization can continue its work addressing economic inequality and climate change. Its vision is to help build a new economy rooted in good jobs, thriving communities, and a healthy environment. To learn more, visit https://laane.org/cityofjusticeawards/
