UPDATE: Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Extends Stay of Evictions Through April 30, 2020; Philadelphia County Postpones May 2020 Foreclosures Until July 2020

By Kristine A. Phillips

As previously reported, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania recently issued an order that stopped any evictions until April 3, 2020.  Due to the ongoing public health concerns related to Covid-19, the provisions of this order were recently extended through April 30, 2020. During this time frame, you cannot be removed from your property for failure to make a rental payment, for failure to make mortgage payment, or for failure to pay property taxes. Even if a judgment has been entered against you, or if an Order for Possession has been issued by the Court, no one will be removed from their property for these reasons through April 30, 2020.

Additionally, the President and Administrative Judges of Philadelphia County’s Court of Common Pleas have issued an Order extending the Sheriff Sales scheduled in Philadelphia county on May 5, 2020 until July 7, 2020.

These decisions extend protections to those that are vulnerable to becoming homeless under these circumstances during this health care crisis, while continuing to safeguard the safety of the community at large by keeping people in place while this pandemic is brought under control.
