Willig, Williams & Davidson Attorney Jessica R. Brown Discusses Union Organizing at Museums with Law360

Willig, Williams & Davidson Of Counsel Jessica R. Brown recently was quoted in an article for Law360 on the efforts to organize workers at museums across the country. Entitled ‘Pandemic Didn’t Stop Museums From Organizing In 2020,’ the article by Danielle Nichole Smith explores the state of union organizing at museums nationwide, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

In the article, labor leaders noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the interest in organizing by workers who historically are lower paid and who face risks from the virus when returning to their jobs interacting with the public. Brown, who represents workers at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, noted that recent museum organizing efforts have aimed for “wall-to-wall” bargaining units in which all the workers at a particular museum organize into one union.

“People within the museum are recognizing that both the professional and nonprofessional employees have a lot in common,” Brown said.
