Willig, Williams & Davidson Attorney Nancy Lassen Quoted in The Philadelphia Inquirer

Philadelphia labor lawyer and firm Partner Nancy B.G. Lassen recently was quoted in an article for The Philadelphia Inquirer regarding Chester County’s new ethics policy.

Entitled “Good government or ‘gag’ order? In Chesco, new ethics policy muzzles county workers,” the article by William Bender discusses a recent edict from Chester County officials instructing government workers not to talk to anyone – including family and friends – about their jobs. The article notes that the directive came after an Inquirer report revealed “major problems” with Chester County’s COVID-19 antibody testing program.

County government employees were required to sign the policy by March 6. Individuals who violate the policy may be subject to disciplinary action, including termination.

Lassen told the newspaper that Chester County’s definition of confidential information is “almost grotesquely overbroad” and could be illegal and unconstitutional.

“It’s nothing short of a gag provision,” Lassen said, likening it to the type of policy required of workers at secure government facilities or in the national security field.
