Willig, Williams & Davidson Attorney to Discuss Union Representation for Cultural Workers

Date: Oct. 13, 2023
Time: 10:00 a.m. ET

Details: Labor attorney Lauren M. Hoye will participate in a panel discussion entitled “Cultural Workers Unite! Legal and Strategic Issues with Cultural Worker Organizing” during the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Lawyers’ Conference.

The panel will focus on the growing trend of cultural workers seeking union representation and the wide variety of opportunities for strategic organizing and campaigns. The discussion will also address the legal challenges cultural workers face when organizing, such as determining who a “guard” is at a cultural institution under the National Labor Relations Act and whether certain cultural institutions are public or private for labor law purposes.

Hoye advocates for labor unions and individual employees before state and federal courts around the country. She appears on behalf of clients in arbitrations, negotiations and administrative proceedings before relevant administrative agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board and the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board. A considerable portion of her practice is devoted to counseling and training on public and private sector labor law as well as employment law and employment disputes. She helps her clients by troubleshooting in urgent situations, developing creative solutions that will assist in resolving their issues and offering an empathetic ear during difficult times.
