Details: Willig, Williams & Davidson partner James S. Beall will serve as an instructor for a certificate program presented by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. The Certificate of Achievement in Public Plan Policy (CAPPP®) is an essential program for new public sector trustees working with pensions. Part I of the program addresses the fundamental areas involved in managing pension plans.

Beall, who has served as faculty for the employee benefits certificate program for many years, will teach a session regarding fiduciary responsibilities, which will explore:

  • An overview of the legal environment in which public plans operate
  • Review fiduciary duties and the role of fiduciary decision making
  • Apply legal concepts to hypothesized situations
  • Familiarize policy makers with necessary components of advice

Beall is known for his skill in representing public and private-sector single and multiemployer employee benefits funds on comprehensive benefits and tax matters. His work concentrates on the firm’s joint labor-management pension and welfare fund clients, as well as labor union clients.
