Willig, Williams & Davidson Labor Attorney to Discuss Wage Equity with Southwestern PA LERA

Jessica C. Caggiano will present on the topic of Wage Equity:  Women’s Economic Rights in the Workplace

Date: October 11, 2022

Details: Labor attorney Jessica C. Caggiano will present at the Southwestern PA chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA)’s October meeting. She will discuss the effect of laws intended to promote and protect wage equality between the sexes and the factors that perpetuate wage disparity, as well as the challenges of addressing wage inequity more broadly.

Her discussion will focus on recent examples in the news involving the economic rights of professional female athletes in the United States; specifically, the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association’s fight for better pay in their first collective bargaining agreement – a fight that Caggiano worked on earlier this year with firm Managing Partner Deborah Willig and labor attorney Larry Goodman – as well as wage disparity issues raised by the United States Women’s National Hockey Team and the United States Women’s National Soccer Team in recent years.

LERA offers networking and development opportunities for professionals interested in all aspects of labor and employment relations.

Caggiano is a partner at the law firm of Willig, Williams & Davidson, whose commitment to creating an inclusive workplace is reflected in the leadership of the firm, one-half of whom represent racial, gender, ethnic and LGBT diversity.

A union-side labor lawyer focused on workers’ rights, Caggiano has received accolades for her work as an advisor and an advocate for unions and the workers they represent in contract negotiations and bargaining, the grievance and arbitration process, before state and federal administrative agencies, and in labor litigation. Prior to joining the firm, she served as in-house counsel at the New York State Public Employees Federation and as associate staff counsel at the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Caggiano’s clients include unions representing bargaining units comprised of both private and public-sector workers, including, most recently, the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association. As labor counsel to the Players Association, Caggiano was a part of the team that negotiated the first-ever collective bargaining agreement for a U.S. professional women’s soccer league in the United States.

She speaks frequently on topics such as wage equity, social media use in the workplace, medical marijuana and employment, and traditional labor topics.
