Date: October 5, 2026

Time: 12-2:10 p.m. ET

Labor and employee benefits lawyer Lauren M. Hoye will teach a virtual CLE session titled “Structuring Severance: Tax Characterization and Unemployment Benefit Consequences of Separation Pay” presented by the Federal Bar Association, in conjunction with myLaw CLE. She will be joined by Marshall Mort and Christophe Delrieu of Fenwick & West LLP.

Hoye’s presentation will focus on the relationship between eligibility for unemployment compensation benefits and the receipt of severance pay. She will cover the different models that states use for addressing this issue, as well as the concerns that practitioners must account for when drafting separation agreements in order to maximize claimants’ eligibility for unemployment compensation benefits.

Hoye advocates for labor unions and individual employees before state and federal courts around the country. She also maintains an active employee benefits practice. She appears on behalf of clients in arbitrations, negotiations and administrative proceedings before relevant administrative agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board and the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board.

The Federal Bar Association is dedicated to the advancement of the science of jurisprudence and to promoting the welfare, interests, education, and professional development of all attorneys involved in federal law. The organization partners with law schools, bar associations, and law firms to offer CLE webinars on the most pressing topics in the legal profession.
