The Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act Goes into Effect: What It Means for Pregnant and Post Partum Employees

The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act went into effect on June 27, 2023, about seven months after President Biden signed it into law. The act requires government and private employers with at least 15 employees to make “reasonable accommodations” for workers who need them due to pregnancy, recent childbirth, or related medical conditions. In what is broadly being understood as a blow to unions, the U.S. Supreme Court on June 1, 2023 held that an employer could sue a union in state court over alleged destruction of employer property incurred as a result of a strike. Deborah R. Willig Featured in Philadelphia Lawyer for Paving the Way for Women in the Legal Profession

Managing partner Deborah R. Willig’s nearly 50-year career fighting for marginalized communities and paving the way for women lawyers recently was highlighted in the Women in Law issue of Philadelphia Lawyer, the Philadelphia Bar Association’s quarterly magazine.
