Michael G. Dryden Discusses Pennsylvania “Rules of the Game” for Firefighter Workers’ Compensation Cancer Cases Part 1 [Video]

In this short video, Workers’ Compensation Department Chair and Philadelphia attorney Michael G. Dryden, discusses firefighter workers’ compensation cancer cases, and specifically, the Scott Sladek case. The Scott Sladek case is instrumental in setting the “rules of the game” for firefighter cancer cases in Pennsylvania. Workers’ Compensation Act 46, Section 108(r) recognizes cancer as an occupational disease in firefighters that were exposed to an International Agency for Research on Cancer Group 1 carcinogen. Michael discusses the framework of claims that were brought pursuant to the Act 46 amendments to the workers’ compensation act that became law in 2011. The cases are not just about the workers’ compensation claims but about whether malignant melanoma is compensable.
