CBS/KYW Interviews Partner Michael Dryden Regarding Precedent-Setting Case on Firefighters’ CancerNovember 14, 2018 CBS reporter Cherri Gregg interviewed Philadelphia firefighter Scott Sladek about a recent decision in a case that set precedent for firefighters across Pennsylvania. After being diagnosed with malignant melanoma, Sladek first had difficulty proving a workers’ compensation case to the City of the Philadelphia.
Willig, Williams & Davidson partner Michael Dryden represented Sladek in his workers’ comp case and argued before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in Fire Dept. vs. W.C.A.B. (Sladek). The court’s decision is the first to decisively address the burden of proof placed upon a firefighter or firefighter dependent under the Cancer Presumption Provisions added to the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act in 2011.
