Willig, Williams & Davidson Labor Lawyer Richard Poulson Represents San Antonio Firefighters in Arbitration Proceedings

Labor attorney Richard G. Poulson, a partner at Willig, Williams & Davidson, represents San Antonio, Texas firefighters in a legal battle with the city over wages and health care coverage. The disagreement has received much media attention, as the arbitration case moves forward.

The firefighters’ contract expired in September 2014, and the union and the city have been in a stalemate since then, according to the Rivard Report, a nonprofit media outlet covering San Antonio. Poulson is advocating for a 14 percent base pay increase for the firefighters, who haven’t seen a base pay raise in six years. Poulson also is arguing that the firefighters should be allowed to keep their current health care plan, which does not require them to pay the cost of their health insurance premiums.

Made up of three appointed members, the arbitration panel heard testimony from experts on both sides in December. The panel will craft a binding contract, which is expected to be completed within a few months.
