Implications to Employee Benefits Plans for the End of COVID-19 Emergency Declarations​

On April 10, 2023, a joint resolution of Congress ended the COVID-19 National Emergency declaration, effective that day, and the White House has announced plans to end the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency declaration on May 11, 2023. As a result, certain benefit requirements and waivers of policies and deadlines for employee benefit plans implemented under the emergency declarations will expire. Our attorneys explain the implications for employee benefit plans, including how coverage of COVID-19 testing costs is to be handled.​

Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court Sides with Former Philadelphia Eagles Player in Workers’ Comp Case

Willig, Williams & Davidson client Emmanuel Acho has won a significant workers’ compensation case in Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court. A former player with the Philadelphia Eagles, Acho filed a workers’ comp claim in 2018 after injuring his thumb twice during practice sessions; he was released from the team shortly thereafter. Although he tried out for other teams, he has not been able to perform up to his pre-injury level. The Eagles filed a petition to terminate benefits for both injuries.

Deborah Willig Named Recipient of 2023 ABA Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award

Those of us who have had the privilege to work with or be represented by Deborah R. Willig know that she has been a fierce advocate for equality in the workplace and in the legal profession – and now the entire U.S. legal profession does as well.
The American Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession has named Willig among five women lawyers and judges to receive the 2023 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award. One of the highest honors in the legal profession, the award recognizes women who achieved success in their own careers and then used their platforms to advance all women in the profession.
